Differentiated Fund of Funds for the Lower Middle Market
This differentiated Fund of Funds for the Lower Middle Market is being formed as a Fund of Funds to invest in top tier Small Business Investment Companies (SBIC Funds). SBICs are funds which provide debt and equity capital to U.S. based businesses and are regulated by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The SBIC program, administered by SBA, has been a highly successful private/public partnership, supporting U.S.-based small businesses. The Opportunity for SBICs is large: 99% of U.S businesses are small businesses and over 60 million people are employed by small businesses.
- Fund target USD $200M
- Fund will consist of approx. 250-350 underlying investments in U.S. based lower middle market businesses
- Fund invests in 10-15 SBIC Funds and each SBIC Fund invests in approx. 20-25 companies
- SBICs invest debt and equity and with low cost leverage provided by SBA can generate returns in the mid to high teens with solid downside protection
- The Fund is being formed by past President of the Northeast Association of SBICs
- The Team has over 30 years experience as SBIC managers totaling over USD $400M in assets
- 30 years experience in direct mezzanine and equity investing
- 30 years experience in investing as Limited Partner in private equity and mezzanine funds
